Second Harvest, セカンドハーベスト

In light of the tragic events that have occurred since Friday last, it feels somewhat inappropriate to blog about another gluttonous extravagance when just a 100 miles or so from here hundreds of thousands not only go hungry, but also miss both home and loved ones.

However, Japan remains one of the greatest dining spots on earth, and the Japanese some of the most dedicated foodies on the planet, too. Despite the ravages wrought upon the Tōhoku region, one day it – and the lives of its people – will be rebuilt. Then, once again, they too will (I hope) return to the simple pleasures to be had from a steaming bowl of noodles, lightly battered tempura, or a well constructed avocado burger.

In the meantime, those people are cold, hungry and lacking in daily items that we might not give thought to amidst all the worry and uncertainty engendered by sensationalist (foreign) press and, at times, obfuscatory government announcements. One fine way to help, and to ensure that those people receive some of the food and items they really need, is to make a donation to Second Harvest.
